Remember there are two different patterns of 8-pin DIN plug - using the 
wrong one can break the socket (it happened to my old TS-830).

CPC and Farnell sell several different ranges of DIN connectors, but 
only one pattern of  8-pin plug in each range. All the 8-pin plugs I've 
bought from them have been the 'circular' or '270deg' layout, which is 
right for ICOM rigs - but the Yaesu band data connector needs the other 
'horseshoe layout' type.

Maplin is the only UK catalogue I know of that lists both patterns and 
specifically identifies them as different.
