One of the very best ways to learn about WriteLog is to use it *all* the
time, not just for contests. If you use the "General DXCC" logger for
all your day-to-day logging, and keep tweaking until it works exactly as
you want it, you'll learn far more quickly than weekend warriors ever
can.
This involves putting your existing logging software on the back burner,
but it's not difficult to transfer the QSO data out of WL by ADIF to
keep your permanent records up to date. Any minor inconvenience will be
far outweighed by the practice you'll get with WriteLog.
Once you've learned enough to develop a sound basic configuration, then
setting-up for a specific contest is quick and easy.
