Hi Chris
Similar problems here on Win2000 and HP6000 laptop. I had installed
DLPORTIO to run LPT keying on N1MM and this has worked fine for months.
But, like you, the LPT option was greyed out in WriteLog set-up. Tried
installing DLPORTIO again and also a few other IO programs with no effect.
I have just installed USERPORT and WL has sprung into life! I had to go
through the installation three times and ended up using explorer to copy the
userport.sys file straight into C:\winnt\system32\drivers. Now the LPT port
is available in WL set-up and it works well with no hesitation or speed
problems.
Still having problems networking two Win2000 laptops together but Win2000 to
Win98 works a treat and as this is what we will be using on the Summer Isles
we can stick the Win2000 issues behind our ear for later!
It could be worth persevering with userport.

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Software for IOTA - problems
Sunday 20th June 2004
Hello all
I've been playing with software for our ZL1V/P IOTA DXpedition, and hit 2
problems - any advice or pointers to archived info would be greatly
appreciated. I'm using a Compaq Evo lap-top running XP Pro. All tests are
with CW mode selected, the transceiver CAT control on COM1, and CW keying on
LPT1.
1. SDI - there *appears* to be a problem - SDI sends 000 for the serial
number, and does not increment this ?
2. Writelog (10.47E) - I still cannot get WL to drive the LPT1 port for CW
Keying. Originally I followed N1EU's instructions, downloaded and installed
Userport, and it worked. Then I made the mistake of connecting a printer to
the same LPT1 and printing a document, and LPT1 has been unavailable to WL
ever since. I've uninstalled the printer, reinstalled WL, deleted and
reinstalled the writelog.ini file, renamed the port LPT2, etc etc with no
success. I've tried the other driver software (DLPortio) recommended by
N1EU, and now WL cannot 'see' any of the LPT ports ! (With Userport at
least it allowed you to check the LPT2 box under 'Setup - Ports')
(Incidentally, for those new to Writelog, and wanting to transfer info.
between PCs or between networked PCs, if you want the same window layout,
etc., you have to copy the (usually initially blank) .wl log-file onto the
other PC, not just the writelog.ini file - Writelog seems to need both
files, not just one, to store all the necessary information about a
log-file)
I'm guessing that the problem is not a WL problem, but an XP Pro registry
problem or similar ?
