As I recall the 850 has a little plug at the rear which effectively shorts the FSK keying line. This must be removed for FSK but re-inserted for other modes, so its location needs to be carefully recorded !!
Incidentally I have lost my FT1000mp manual since moving house so would similarly be interested in finding a source.
