Yes Mike,
I heard FM5GU calling CQ on 1805 for ages, but he didn't appear to be
working split. In fact he didn't appear to be working anyone! Were Eu
working him on that frequency or did he finally realise that he wasn't
working stuff and QSY?

Andy asked about the band plan during contest I recall the discussion from
last year and in summary the group seemed to feel that if you want to follow
the band plan (do not forget it is only advisory) you will not work the best
of the DX.
The highlight for me was a 15 min period all below 1850!! when I got FM5GU,
KV4FZ, V47GP, VP5B and XE1RCS all with a 100w to a half wave at 55 feet.
So whilst G3SVLs comments are totally correct, just occasionally the small
fry can get away with it!!
Its just like braking a pile up. Listen for a bit and get the feel for the
other stations calling then drop your FULL callsign when the other callers
take a break The odds are that the DX will hear your signal in a lull and
when there are only half a dozen other callers. I learnt that from the
other end when operating as VS9OC, VS9MF, 9V1OE, 9V0OE, 9V1SN, 9V0SN and
VQ9IO. (Back in the days when the UK ran the world).
