[UK-CONTEST] CQWW 2004

I dont find it contentious at all Colin. I dont think that contest calls
are any different from any other, GM or not. I operated GM5A at times
calling CQ on 7023 and just above there, but I draw the line at 7003.....

As you say - during CQWW - band PLANS go out the window - they are band
PLANS and just that. I think it good that they exist for the greater good
but I think that during the major Contesting events which only last about
10 days each year they can be relaxed, then I dont think anybody can
complain. At GM5A I had a 2 element yagi beam about 70 feet and was
running an MP and a linear at 400 watts PEP. In the UK we already have a
power disadvantage and its only a matter of time that you start high in the
band and get pushed slowly but surely to the edges. Countless times I had
to relinquish a frequency to stronger German and Balkan stations, so I make
no apology for being lower in frequency than I would probably like, but it
was either that or QRT. I did listen ABOVE 100 but apart from some yakking
Gs and the States I didnt hear too much. I guess we will have to wait till
the rest of the World catch up.

Maybe we should lobby Ofcomm or whoever they call themselves now, but a
common European power limit of say 1kW - at least during the major contests
when using a Contest Call, then maybe - maybe these petty squabbles wouldnt
flare up.

I did get flack for calling CQ on 7023 from several stations including Gs,
who refused to identify themselves and who dont do their cause much good by
causing deliberate QRM contrary to The Wireless Telegraphy Act, rather than
little me who was breaking NO law.

Now THATS contentious!!!!! hehe
