This sounds like a contester's view of the world.
If contesters took a broader view of the overall situation, they would
discover that very few of the regular 40 m CW operators are contesters.
For such operators, the CW leg of CQ WW is far from consolation for
the mayhem caused by the SSB event. The CQ WW events together
constitute a double blow for many casual operators; home-brewers;
experimenters; and those with limited bands/operating time.
Only if you take a bird's eye view will you begin to understand the
fuss. As contesters, we must all realise that a small minority of SSB
contesters cause significant annoyance to those good people who keep 40m
CW buzzing with activity _between_ contests. Like Colin, I am also
embarrassed and ashamed when I hear SSB contesters operating outside the
agreed bandplans, or enticing others to do so.
