Well, last night was my first ever bash at RTTY. I could have programmed the
keys perhaps a few nights earlier but I ran out of time so I decided to do
it "manually" SHOCK HORROR!
I used MMTTY and just entered each one in WINLOG32 as I typed them out.
My first QSO went horribly wrong so I listened and learned for a bit and
transmitted into my dummy load a few times to get the hang of it. It was
very scary for a proud bloke like me and I cocked up a couple, but I always
managed to eventually do a report and number and "TU 73" or something that
popped into my head that was probably very wrong! With one station, I even
sent "SORRY 1ST RTTY 73 TU".
Thanks for a laugh gents (and gals) and for letting me play - I trust the
learning experience will help me in the future. I still love playing at
contesting, what ever the mode - it's a fun hobby :)
Result: 11 Qs and 100% "mucking about"!

Hi all,
As Jim noted, there were lots of instances of "not very good" operating
practices, and I too had a few that got deleted from the log, simply because
they called CQ straight away, rather than confirming the contact with a "73
TU QRZ?" type message.
I also found a few that were exceedingly slow to respond to a call, so I
called again, only to find them sending me a report.
I do appreciate that some are new to RTTY, but PLEASE do note down what you
have in the buffers, and be ready to send them!
It was also hard this far south!
As for running, I found that starting of with CQ was a waste, so I went to
S&P, and then returned to CQ'ing later in the contest. This proved to be
better for a short while, but soon got sparse.
I ended up with 45, although I actually worked more than that, it's just
that they didn't make it into the log!
73, and see all you RTTY types in the SPRVG at the weekend! (Rules and info
can be found a www.rttycontesting.com )
