I was the second critical letter (actually an e-mail). I was a little
disappointed with the lack of acknowledgement, but a chaser produced a reply.
There are two paragraphs from Peter Kirby's response which I feel are worth
putting on this reflector:
"We had a strong short list which included a number of Radio Amateurs, but
Mr Kearns outshone all the other candidates by a mile. I don't believe you
can judge him on three editions of the magazine, as much of the contents of
those editions was already planned."
[Actually, my comments were more about the quality - e.g. VLF FD, anonymous
letters in Last Word, AFS results missing were ones I cited]
"Alex has shown in the short time he has been with the Society his
commitment. He has passed his Foundation licence examination, is well on
the way to sitting his Intermediate licence and I expect within a few
months will hold an Advance licence."
[This is encouraging]
So, as Stewart & Colin says, don't bitch here (or on 80m nets), write to
Peter Kirby - he is the one who needs to know.
