Ok, so we need to set some learning goals. For me :
1 - How to convince the non-UK Europeans not to hold ragchew QSOs during our
SSB sessions.
2 - How to create more activity from clubs outside of the M25/M3/M4
corridor. (Knock-on effect for NFD)
3 - How to negate the warbling effect on received signals.
On number 3, maybe a system of reflectors at an optimum spacing (0.15w?)
underneath the dipole. How many elements and what horizontal plane spacing?
Would the slope either side of centre need to be in proportion to the slope
of the main dipole element. Should we be considering a multi element array,
if so again what spacing etc. Should this only be applied to stations
outside the M25/M3/M4 corridor.
Cripes, you are right, there is a lot of research required here but at least
I might make another 20 Qs. Chris G3SJJ

Not at all tongue in cheek; I agree entirely with SVL and for us in
Leicestershire we are at a disadvantage at this time of year. The critical
frequency does not seem to be following any known pattern so the January and
February contests are actually useful.
I would like the contest to stop in May so that we can deal with our
planning and operation of HF and VHF NFD

For that reason alone I would vote to keep the Jan/Feb contests so we learn
more about how to deal with such condx.
