Structurally, I'd rather you didn't talk about drilling (or welding) the
main tube! Use a stripped down scaffold clamp, or get an 'outside'
(sleeve type) joiner and cut it to half length (makes two!). Fix it
tight to the main mast and let the guyed sleeve(s) bear down on that.
