Well, for one thing, you could always change your run frequency.
It seems to me somewhat bizarre that anyone should expect to 'own' a
given frequency for an entire operating event, given the dynamics of
propagation and the ebb and flow of stations moving up and down the
band. Flexibility would seem to be the key here.
General observation: The use of the term 'run frequency' by a contester
implies that that a second VFO is being used for S&P. If this were the
case, might it not be possible for another station to call 'Is this
frequency occupied?', get no response, then grab the original run
frequency while a QSO is being set up/made on the second VFO?
Maybe the QRM was deliberate, although I remain to be convinced of this.
Of greater concern to me is the lack of flexibility shown, and the
notion of 'owning' a frequency.
