Just a quick reminder that the deadline for VHF NFD registration is
approaching. If you're planning to enter VHF NFD competitively (i.e. you
want to qualify for the awards), you need to send your registration to
us by 29th June (e-mail : vhf.entry at rsgb.org.uk). If you choose not to
pre-register, you can still take part in the contest and enter, but you
just won't be eligible for any of the trophies or certificates. There
are trophies on offer for the overall winners in each section & trophies
for the Scottish winners in the Open, Restricted & Low Power sections.
There are certificates on offer to the winners and runners up on each
band & section, and to winners from each country (G, GM, GI, GW, GU, GJ,
GD) in each section. Furthermore, you'll receive enough certificates to
give one to each member of your team.

For those of you new to it, VHF NFD is a great opportunity for the club
or even a single operator to go out and enjoy the wonderful British
summer mixed in with some interesting radio. The sporadic-E season is
still in full swing on 6m, there's some decent history of 2m sporadic-E
openings on this weekend, and there's also a fair chance of interesting
tropo on all the bands up to 23cm. It's pretty normal for some contacts
over 1000km to be made during the weekend, even on 2m and above. There's
excellent activity in the rest of Europe on this weekend as well to make
things extra interesting.

The contest covers all bands from 6m through to 23cm, and has sections
aimed to suit all levels of hardware / enthusiam, from the Open Section
(full power, no antenna restrictions, 24 hours, operate up to 4 bands),
through Restricted (100W, restricted antennas, 24 hours, operate up to 4
bands), Low Power (25W, restricted antenna, take 8 hours sleep, operate
up to 3 bands) & Mix and Match (select each of up to 4 bands from the
Open, Restricted and Low Power categories). You can reduce the
requirements for hardware and people further by chosing 4m and 6m since
these only run for 8 hours each, and don't overlap their times. We also
accept single band entries - something for everyone!

Full details are available at http://www.blacksheep.org/vhfcc, and
follow the links down through Rules... VHF National Field Day.

If you have any queries, please drop me a note.

73 & good luck,
