[UK-CONTEST] Lacking in memory

Chris,

On the Windows 95/8/Me family of software there is a limited amount of
memory set aside by the operating system to store its temporary information
and it is likely that it is this memory which is becoming exhausted.

I no longer run that family of software, but I recall there used to be a
system application called something like "System Resource Meter". Run that
and it will give you details of the three bits of memory that Windows uses.
You might find that one of these is filling up. You may find that it is not
installed by default and you need to install it from your installation CD.

It is just as well that you are not running Win 95 as that had a 64M limit
associated with installed DLL's which caused heaps of problems!

Let me know if I can help further.

Exactly what my wife keeps telling me as well as my computer! Hopefully some
of you whizz kids can offer some words of comfort.

I run VE7CC's AR Telnet software and it appears to use a lot of memory with
all the incoming spots. Typically when I run my general logging program,
Logger 32 and also have MS Outlook running as well, if I try to open a new
e-mail I can't and get a message about insufficient memory. (Isn't
interesting how these things follow real life?!!)

So today I installed a second memory DIMM (what an apt name.) Now I have 2
lots of 256MB. Checking with System/Properties, it confirms 512MB RAM. I am
now finding that generally things have sharpened up a bit, but "out of
memory" messages seem to be appearing more often rather than less.

Is there anything I need to do? The machine is a home built 1.2GHz, Win
98SE.
