Thanks to everyone for the advice, especially Dave G3RXP and Doug G0WYW. I
assembled this computer about 2.5 years ago and had forgotten what kind of
maintenance you can do. Firstly I de-fragged the hard-drive which took a
good 10 hours! Now I have 26GB available of the original 32GB, which is a
substantial improvement.
I had a look at Start and Sys Info. This is where the main problem is. It is
telling me there is 512MB in total, but after an initial clearout, on boot
up, there is still only 54% of memory free, so I obviously need to do some
more work. Loading my basic running programs looks like this :
No applications running 54% and in turn load :
micro Ham Router 53
Outlook 51
Logger 32 45
VE7CC ARE 22
VE7CC can Telnet 10
Logger32 + VE7CC 7
Currently with 146 Spots listed in VE7CC and writing this e-mail, I am at
6%. At this, I am not now experiencing the initial problems I reported, so
again thanks for the help, but it is painfully obvious that I can still
improve the system, though this might have to wait a couple of weeks.
For those following the (boring!) SHY saga, took my AS level French Oral
exam 2 weeks ago with the subject of my presentation being the French Wine
Industry, which as you know is a subject very close to my lips! This
Thursday is the 3 hour Listening/Reading/Writing paper, so now I need to get
down some some more revision. Then we are going to Paris for a few days as a
late 60th birthday Caleb and after that it is NED. Such a busy life when you
are retired!! Chris G3SJJ
