[UK-CONTEST] Laptop Batteries...

I'm sorry, this is slightly off topic, but I think someone here will know the answer. In looking for a lightweight laptop for portable contesting (yes, next years IOTA!) I decided to simply refurbish the batteries in an old Dell I have. Has anyone ever attempted this? I have found that the battery packs are well sealed but seem to contain standard cells.
Please let me know if you have tried replacing these cells, off the reflector.
