[UK-CONTEST] Alligators & Rabbits in CQWW CW

Hi all
I noticed a quite a few stations who don’t even allow enough time for
their agc to recover between CQ calls.  Being in a temporary location I
am limited by a really poor antenna and I am sure some of these stations
would have heard me if only they cottoned on to the idea that you LISTEN
between calls.  On the other hand, I am quite amazed at the Ears on some
of the big American stations, I worked several on 20 & 40M with my 20
Watts when they were marginal and they still heard me!  How do they do
that?
