Hiya Guys

I don't for one moment believe that changing the rules of NFD will encourage
more UK portable stations to be active. I can't believe that there are
people out there thinking "mmm, I'd love to spend a cold night in a field if
only we had a multiplier based scoring system". On the other hand I don't
think that changing the rules would cause any lack of UK interest either.

I don't think one can discount the social element. Although we are keen
contesters our little group (G0AAA) has found NFD a little dull as a CW
contest for many years now. So rather than returning to our once successful
site year after year, we have, as a bit of fun, made a point of traveling to
different UK countries to put on an entry. So anything that will liven up
field day is good for me.

So for me ..
Fixed stations ..no problem, but they can only work portable stations.

Classes of entry .. based on the British system. Open/Restricted/QRP

Multiplier scoring ..why not ..if it encourages more G stations to get off
their backsides and out of their backyards and go to GI/GJ/GU/GW/GD (or even
GM !) then all the better. After all it is a portable contest.
(Don't worry about double points for 160/10 a mult system would encourage
mult hunting on these bands.)

Cluster ..well I don't see the point, it's a portable contest, there has to
be something to differentiate it from a fixed station, other than the lack
of a brick wall and 230volt mains.

Station inspections ..why not.

Having said all that, we could simply keep the NFD rules as they are and let
the DARC organize an enlarged EU FD and UK stations could simply do as our
group does i.e. send in an entry to both.
