'I subscribe to the school of thought that
the DX Cluster has 'de-skilled' our contesting (and DXing)
to a noticeable
degree - it's use should be discouraged at every
opportunity. Sadly the
trend seems to be in the opposite direction - I guess
because contest
organisers are unable or unwilling to disqualify those who
claim to be
Unassisted but use the DX Cluster ?'

I agree wholeheartedly with the first sentence.>

In the interests of Celtic unity I concur ;-0

Seriously, the above sentence simply may not be disputed.

NFD is a multi-op contest, only inasmuch as all the ops. are
"in the tent", not in some other geographical location, or
with mega antennas. They are using their own skills not
those of someone else or their resources. Cluster use has no
place whatsoever in such an environment, and negates the
ethos of NFD, which- progress notwithstanding- is
sacrosanct.

On a slightly different tack, overall, more Eu activity is
not needed, what is required is more activity from our
islands. Whatever change or harmonisation of rules is
engineered, it will not increase G activity one iota ( pun
not intended!). The problem is more fundamental than that,
and indeed is what should be exercising the minds of HFCC
and indeed all of us. I have no easy solutions, but
re-arranging the deck chairs will not avoid a collision with
an iceberg.

btw full marks to CQ mag. ( can't believe I just said that!)
for DQing, but I have to say it flew right by me in the
write up; let's shout it from the roof tops.
