It is all very well wishing for the days of old to return, but the truth
is they will not.
For a start how many clubs/individuals have what I will call a 'basic'
[ie non 2 vfo all singing all dancing japanese box] rig, suitable for
NFD as we [and I am 59 so do recall the old days of wet nights in tents,
lugging batteries across fields, and fixing long wires by judicious use
of bows and arrows] used to know it.
Back in the 60's [and probably before that] one could count on 90% of a
Clubs Membership turning out to help/operate/bring in last order fish
and chips/ another crate of brown ale/fresh milk for breakfast
These days, apart from some fairly well known groups, the enthusiasm for
that aspect of the Hobby is not there - what is probably nearer the
truth is that 90% of the Members have not even got a key.
Those days were fun, now life [and contesting] has got too serious.
