A flying start, but a tough 40 mins in the latter half !!
1st 30 - 48 QSO's
2nd 30 - 32
3rd 30 - 30
I could break QSO's down by 15 minute segments, to better illustrate the
activity. When I worked SJJ, he was quite weak, so the 30 -50 mile range was
poor by then
Some strange 5khz wide noise appeared periodically at the bottom 5KHz of the
band segment periodically; quite strong. Not sure what it was.
I too had the M4... that Clive commented on; and fixed it 3rd time. Same
guy, eh ! I think he was hand sending too fast ! I will always slow down
on the exchange for slower people - even vary the CQ speed after the first
flurry of activity!
I still suspect some stations are abnormally strong - not adhering to the
power eh??!! We can all use an amp and claim to be running 100W !!! Which
way is it going to go, chaps ??
Another tactic. I suspect some old hands are trying to slow anyone down who
does S&P by querying them; I suspect unnecessarily. I got to cynically
think that , if you are doing SO2V; the idea is to prolong the exchange, so
that you stand a better chance of losing your run !!! It happened quite a
few times to me this time.
I ran the computer CW throughout. I did AFS with Keyer CW throughout;
which sometimes gives better flexibility (nice to greet a known acquaintance
by name, for instance).
I have to ditch my old P133 PC; in favour of my new laptop; the final move
to XP and new software. I am not sure of SJJ's aversion to Wronglog, which
we have used at MD4K with success. But I could understand the attraction of
N1MM! I have been looking at Win-test; which will interface nicely with my
MicroHam USBII device. I may yet get on the digi modes soon....
Cheers all
Dave

G3SJJ said "I am still puzzled though by the M S. I asked for a repeat so
many times
that the guy eventually gave up in disgust. If I could have identified a
number, maybe I could have got the rest. Just a thought, was it M5? M S
I. Dunno."
I had a similar one with a station dropping in a call M4*** I got him to
repeat this several times and in the end I said "your call is M4*** " to
which he came back and said no it's M0*** after having sent at least four
times M4***. Perhaps he was just confused of Nottingham !
