Several have commented on the idea of getting rid of the special club
prefixes (GX, GS, etc.) Their use was only intended for the occasions when
greetings messages were being passed by clubs, in the days when this was a
"special" activity. Even then, it seemed a bit unnecessary, and now anyone
can pass such messages.

Using calls such as GS2MP for contests and other special events was never
what was really intended, and has been seen as anomalous for some time. I
don't think anyone can be surprised that this is no longer supported. The
confusion caused internationally is pointless, and it's doubtful whether
there is a real advantage in contests, when you must surely have to explain
frequently which country you're in.

Anyone who wants to attract attention on the air can ask for a GB call, and
you have the additional "benefit" of masking your DXCC country completely!
If we're going down that road, I favour special event calls in an additional
format: G22AB, GM2006AS, GW334C, etc., which does not clash with any other
callsign series, and which identifies the country straight away.
