G'day,
| I think we all contest to win,
Not me, apart from winning the RSGB 21/28 SSB (overseas) thirty years ago
I haven't been in the slightest bit competitive. What I have been doing
in recent years is just trying to learn and improve. Not sure that I
didn't even go backwards in the last BERU despite putting in more effort.
I find contests interesting for the activity they produce and the
possibilities it gives me to take a wander down interesting propagation
paths. For this reason I like the DX type contests (BERU, Oceania) over
the pure rate contests. A South American only CW only contest I have
operated in in the past couple of years offers the chance of making
reasonable single band scores and placings by selective S&P of the
prefixes. Other than that I come on to hand out some points (GB5HQ),
occasionally getting mugged into a modest laid back run (120/hour) for an
hour and a half like in the last ARRL 10M SSB.
However, maybe the competitive streak is emerging, what other reason would
there be for a new OB9-5 and Acom 1000 to beat a path out of these
backwoods.
Regards,
Mike VP8NO
