This thread is demonstrating of course that the inhabitants of this
list are pretty un-representative of the amateur population as a
whole. Some clubs 'do' contesting, some don't. My first radio club in
the late 1970s (Corby Technical College ARG) used to turn out for VHF
contests in a small way, which is where I got the 'bug'.

Thank goodness for that - otherwise I might be whileing away my time
on 80m SSB discussing greenhouses and allotments right now....
