Hi all
I agree with most of the comments made regarding GB5HQ,however it occurs to me that whilst all of the "Rounding Up the Troops" and getting them to work the GB5HQ stations is one thing,(and a good thing to boot) a building on the established approach may need to be taken. (Not that I have any experience in GB5HQ, but this is just based upon my observations of this Forum).

It appears that the SP and DL teams are following the rules, as are the UK Team. But (and this is my opinion) the difference is the British mentality, which is to follow the rules and almost "bumble" through, , whilst the SP and DL Teams (and dare I say it their mentality) is that of one..and I quote...

"A smart person knows all the rules so he can break them wisely"

What I am saying is, if these teams are winning, how are they winning ? The How is the real question. What is motivating the vast number of SP and DL amateurs to work the HQ Stations ? What are the winning stations doing that is different ? When are they doing it and why? (Apart from winning :) )

This isn't about who has got the biggest, loudest station in G Land, nor is it about who is the best operator, nor is this post about how GB5HQ Operators are selected.

For me, what this "email-forum-analysis" is about is: How Did They Do That? How do we do that ?
What can we do to do that ?

Whilst generating high volumes of QSO's is certanly one aspect, until it is identified How the winning teams are generating these high volumes,How they are winning, What are they doing differently, then developing a "winning" strategy to produce these results is putting the cart before the horse.

As I said, motivating and rounding up the troops to work GB5HQ is one thing (and a good thing at that) I think further analysis will yield more of an insight into how the winning teams are winning. Thats what would form the basis of a strategy to win the contest by the GB5HQ team (or for that matter any other Contest event).

I can think of a number of ways to generate more QSO's, as indeed can most people on this list, I can think of IT Solutions that may make multiplier spotting and working quicker and easier, I think of a couple of groups with the ability to put a big signal on the air. This is not about that, this is about detailed analysis of how the winning teams win.

Analysis will take time, and some not inconsiderable effort, but I believe it will yield results.

This is my own opinion, and not intended to spark off some sort of Flame War, as I believe 99% of all the comments posted here about GB5HQ are at least useful, if not constructive.

Two Bulls in a field, young Bull says to old Bull"Quick, lets run down the Field, and get us some cows".......old Bull to young Bull " No, we'll walk down there and get the lot".
