[UK-CONTEST] RS232 1 Radio / 2 computers

What's it for? The RSGB SSB Field Day "restricted" section using one
FT1000MP and two operators (you can use both VFOs).
I've discovered that I'll use N1MM because the IARU contest in N1MM has the
correct scoring to support a UK /P operation and run 2 x USB keyboards and
double monitors and split the application across two windows. VFO A on left
window and VFO B on right window.
The guys at the club aren't that confident when it comes to contesting, but
it's just for fun and gives more than one person a shot at playing with a
radio at any one time.
Callum.

I have been thinking about this today.
Mark is quite correct about the Polling of the Port, but, I wonder what
would happen if certain lines on the Comm Port are disconnected ? ....Could
N1MM be dupped (no pun intended) into thinking two radio's etc ?
You could try using a "Break out" box. These used to be available. Each one
is set up so that you can place it in line with a Comm Port and either make
or break each line, as well as "Patch" lines.
Whats this for, by the way ? Some sort of training exercise?
Adrian

Hi Callum
I asked exactly this question on the N1MM reflector in January this
year, but I got no replies.
The RS232 transmit line from the MP can go, by a Y-cable, to both PCs Rx
in lines, but only one PC can talk to the MP (at any one time).
Both instances of N1MM will be polling the MP and will expect responses
to their polling messages. I haven't tried it but I would expect
messages like "Port not found" or something like that.
Please let us know what happens if you try it out.
Best 73, Mark G4AXX

I have a requirement to network 2 x computers to one FT1000MP so that
they can both read the frequency off the same radio using N1MM as the
contest logger via RS232
Basically, I want to organise "Big Knob Little Knob" (2OSR = 2 Ops
Single Radio!).
Has anyone done this? Will it work with a Y cable..?
Kind regards,
