To some extent I would echo Brian's comments. In the past few years I
have had a little play with QRP and my very modest antennas and have
had satisfaction in working a few of the rarer (or not so rare things
like VK/ZL) without the European pileups to contend with. It is one
of the few weekends of the year when this is possible, and even 10m
has a habit of opening when the odds seem against it. Brian 9J2BO of
course puts in a regular appearance.

But although I have put in an entry, with the present rules there is
little incentive as I always come way down the ladder. And I
invariably end up in spending more than 12 hours and have to enter
the Open section... I am not even a competitive entrant in the 100W
wire antenna section.. Last year I just used it as an opportunity to
fill a few band slots for the year, and I expect I will do the same
this year. With no chance of competing with the big boys I doubt
whether I will submit an entry this year.
