[UK-CONTEST] FT1000mp problems with CAT

Good afternoon,
I have a problem with my 'mp, which I wonder if you
can help me with.
Last weekend (ARRL SSB), I tuned up the amplifier and
achieved a comfortable figure, but, as soon as I spoke
into the mic (I know, that's where I went wrong,
should have stayed on CW), the PC beeped loudly and
started to re-boot and all the lights went out on the
front of the 'mp.
I switched everything off and started again, but,
whilst everything else seems to work, the PC and the
'mp have never spoken to each other since.
I have tried the obvious:
The TS850 talks to the PC in either serial port.
The 'mp doesn't work in either serial port.
The cable rings out OK.
I have performed a CPU reset on the 'mp.
I am forced to suspect the MAX232 chip on the 'mp
control board.
Have you any experience of such a failure, or have you
heard of such a thing?
Is there a diagnostic check I can perform, possibly
using the oscilloscope, to verify what has gone wrong?
Good old-fashioned fault-finding is all very well, but
when microprocessors get involved, I get into
difficulty!
Any assistance or advice will be greatly appreciated.
73,
(try not to laugh... it could happen to you - couldn't
it?)
John,
