[UK-CONTEST] BERU 2006 comments (longish)

A couple of comments to postings I saw on the reflector this morning at work.
"..the technique for us low power stations of 'enticing' a station to QSY a few Hz after a QSO with a big gun who is running is important and I don't think it's acceptable in a gentleman's contest like BERU (sorry Commonwealth).."
I see no practical or ethical harm in side-swiping cold meat from the rich man's table (figuratively of course) after a QSO is complete. If done properly, it doesn't cause any bother to the said rich man or to anyone else. The guy concerned is probably pleased to have an extra "free" QSO and to be called himself, something that may not happen that often.
"I think it would be really interesting in contest reports if those who
_do_ work loads of stuff post an hour by hour breakdown showing roughly
what they work on which band, something like:
0500-0600 40m: VK3,VK7,ZL2,vp9 80m: Zl2, Vk3, VE6, VE7,
0600-0700 20M:ZL3 40m: Zl4,VK9,
etc etc etc
to give an idea of what you _can_ work where and when, I would find it
particularly useful."
This might be considered a request for proprietary information by some (anyone ever pursuade Al 'FXB to share his BERU strategies?). Gerry 'RTN provided a really good run-down in his piece which was nicely in time for the contest. Not that I can claim to fall into Andy's specified category, but the following gives an indication of what could be found (mostly via S&P) with a modest station in this low solar activity year (note that the 10m stuff was worked in the first 9 minutes of the contest, largely thanks to Brian ODV's suggestion to give it a go). I also counted only 20 "new" stations i.e. never worked in BERU before, which probably corroborates remarks about the "exclusiveness" of this event. However Gerry, who admits he only discovered BERU comparatively recently, has been well and truly hooked so why not others?
