It was the missive from Gerry, G0RTN, last week, extolling the virtues of BERU that made me make time for the contest. I set out to follow his excellent operating plan but it quickly fell apart as conditions were very flat from here. Final tally was 33 stations in the log after four hours operating time. Called CQ on 20 and 80 for about an hour with only one VE on 80m to show for the effort. Normally working VE on 40/80 in the morning is quite easy but it was not to be this weekend.
However the highlight of highlights was working J88DR on 80m and realising that I had finally achieved five band DXCC. After that I was too excited to work much else and woke the family with bucks fizz at 0800 to celebrate! Funny how a lot is lot in the translation, J8, new one, 80m, St Vincent, 5BDXCC, they were only interested in bacon rolls to go with the bucks fizz!
I will certainly be back next year to increase the score and look for more new ones.
