[UK-CONTEST] BERU dead?

Well, this was my first Beru - sorry, CC - sorry, Beru........
Being a QRP station, I'd like to see some recognition/indication within the results of low power having been used. Purely selfish, I know.
I enjoyed the contest for the limited time that my station made the QSOs available. Even my puny watts got some great DX into the log - I'm delighted with my 40m antenna system as it seems to do the job very nicely. It's nothing but a quarterwave vertical in my back garden, with a few wires thrown around for good measure. Seems to work OK.
I'll be participating next year, for sure.
Cheers,
Phil Smeaton

> BERU is not 'dead'. Don't be silly. It's NOT a rate-contest but
> it never has been. It is a DXer's contest. It is different. It adds
> to the rich hue of contesting so that we can all find some events
> which we enjoy. There are those who complain that sending
> 5NN to each other in CQWW is silly. Orses fer corses.
> BERU is BERU - CC is CC. We already have a very successful
> CC - the 80m Club Championship.
> Yes, banning cluster keeps folks away from this contest, more
> than any other - most BERU participants are DXers who are
> hunting DX - they fear missing juicy DX without the cluster,
> including missing spots for non-Commonwealth DX, so they
> don't want to be cut off from the world for 24 hours.
> Remember that, as with ALL contests, the success of the event
> depends on attracting the casual participants. Without cluster you
> are committed to the contest full-time. Many entrants are part-time.
> The thrill of BERU always has been chasing long-haul DX.
> Allowing G's to work GW's and GM's changes the very nature
> of the event. VK2 to VK6 is DX, VE2 to VE6 is DX - that's different.
> SJJ seems to never know when his drum has worn out from all
> that banging he does.
> BERU needs no change, except allowing cluster.
> And let's not get into politics. Gerry's write-up was otherwise
> really entertaining and his analysis excellent. The British
> Commonwealth is robust and has clout on the world stage.
> But self-effacement is very British!
