Thanks for the information on this - I will investigate further.
I have realised I had one bit of software on the shack PC all along
which does some nice things - this is HFProp by G4ILO. I had only
really looked at this for the greyline, but hadn't appreciated some of
the nicer features.
As well as plots of MUF and LUF you can plot the short or long path to
any location - a separate window can show a 24hr graph of MUF and LUF
for that path, as you move the mouse around clicking on locations the
path on the world map changes to reflect the new location and the
MUF/LUF chart changes to match - hence you can see the difference in
propagation for relatively small changes in distance (on a world
scale!). For example I was looking at the difference between ZL2 and
ZL4, for the latter the MUF goes above 14mhz giving me some hope of a
qso, but at the current Solar flux the MUF according to this model never
reaches 14mhz for ZL2!
