I think that Fred is being rather harsh describing the current system as a 
shambles.

Firstly, the HFCC (and VHFCC) are volunteers and give us contesters a great 
deal of their time.

Secondly when submitting logs we should remember that communication is a two 
way affair. Asking for an acknowledgement closes the loop. Many of the HFCC 
send an acknowledgement as a matter of course and willingly send one when 
requested.

In the CC80 contests we at De Montfort University ARS have appointed one 
member (me as club secretary) to check with our participants that 
acknowledgement of the logs have been received. We have not lost a log since 
we introduced this scheme and even when we had thought we had lost a log is 
was the contester who had made the error.
