With automated keying, logging, spotting, DVKs etc., I'm not sure there's a
lot of difference between RTTY and the "classical" modes these days. I
used to be quite a fan, working W's using a Creed 7B with the motor governed
down to 45.5 and a home-made 12AT7 TU was a real achievement. Everything
was printed out for you so there were no "lost" QSOs. And the BARTG contest
was always well patronised. It's just different - I wouldn't ditch it. The
issue that was raised is only about the logging format anyway, which is
peripheral to the ability to make a QSO. Until there's an agreed standard
on a QSO/logging format, hand-crafting/editing a log for submission can't be
that onerous in a 2 hour event. It must have taken 30 years to get
agreement on rates and shifts so I'm not holding my breath.
