I've already posted this to the CDXC Reflector, but for completeness here's
the G5W story from last weekend.
It was a really last minute effort at Multi-single. I had planned to operate
SOAB, but Marios, G0WWW, suddenly asked if there was a seat anywhere for
the contest, and we agreed to do MS with just the two of us. Not the best
manning level (optimum undermanning, I've heard it called) but we had a
great time. We each took three hours sleep over the weekend, which meant
that the station was only manned at only one operating position for six
hours over Saturday night, but apart from that we were running (or trying
to) and multing all the time.
Saturday was a blast. We were about 70 mults ahead of last year at the end
of 24 hours, and about the same Qs. Sunday seemed to fall apart (high "A"
index) and getting sustained runs going was hard work. So we dropped back on
Q's compared with last year, although the mults were about 50 ahead at the
end. But the real change was in the mix - the points per Q were down
compared with last year, which means that we did not get the 7.9M we had
last year, by quite a big margin.
