[UK-CONTEST] It's a conspiracy

Don't feel too too bad about broadband availability in
the UK.
I am 16km from the exchange here and Bell only offer
DSL within 3km. That means that a high percentage of
the (admittedly relatively small) population in
Northern Ontario cannot easily get a broadband
connection.
I have overcome this by using a 900MHz link between a
60' tower here and an antenna at 240' on a tower
closer to town - 200W erp from my end and 100W erp
from the other - even with those antenna heights it is
not a line of sight path. This gives me an 860kbps
dedicated link. I then have a 2.4GHz link to a
wireless ISP, which is allegedly at 1Mbps. I say
allegedly because my dedicated link is never the
limiting factor on speed... The wireless ISP charges
me C$54 (£25) per month for my connection. My
neighbour uses 2-way satellite internet which costs
him over C$120 per month (and C$1500 for initial
equipment).
Funny how BT can manage to do it in rural Wales, which
has some similarities with rural Ontario, whereas Bell
can't or rather won't.
