To RadCom, Last Word,

Anti-Contesters

Undeniably, contesters contribute enormously to amateur radio in so many ways. Yet the Anti-Contest Brigade selfishly complains about QRM. They expect a huge number of contesters to QRT so as not to interfere with rag-chewing on nearly empty bands. Some 60,000 radio amateurs take part in the CQ World-Wide contests once each year. This enormous vibrancy is celebrated by those who promote the health of amateur radio.

Contesters and Anti-Contesters will never see eye to eye, so let's both just live and let live. Significant contest QRM happens on only about 20 out of 365 days. As RSGB itself said (RadCom, Sept 2004): "No-one is entitled to an absolutely clear frequency, during a contest or at any other time". It is time that RadCom stopped wasting valuable column-inches on this sterile debate.
