Shocked! - blimey you need to get out more :-)
He said that he is newly returning to VHF contesting, I hope he doesn't
read your mail as his "welcome back"
It looks like he just hasn't read the rules or simply hasn't understood
the the scoring system. If he is serious about his entry this will be a
lesson that he's learned.
WRT his second point about lack of activity on the higher bands, its
true, the bigger stations do seem to be moving away from these bands,
favouring to concentrate on the lower bands but I wouldn't think that
this is related to financial cost. Certainly running 23cm is expensive
in terms of resource (operators) that could be shelling peas on 50MHz -
VHF FD is turning into a rate contest almost as dull as an HF event.
This may make the event more enjoyable for the big guns and the well
equipped dx stations - but its unlikely to ever encourage casual entrants.
Anyway, I just sent a simple e-mail to GM4TOE which has hopefully
explained the basics of the scoring system and that his efforts on the
higher bands weren't entirely wasted.
His call doesn't appear in my log but I've no idea what group he was
with (if any) but with luck he'll be back next year which will be good
for everyone.
Regards Paul
