I agree 100% Dave. The CW section on 4m used to be a lot of fun and
would result in a lot of QSOs otherwise impossible on the 'less out of
date mode' which of course is SSB (as we are now led to believe from a
correspondent in July RadCom!).
I finished building a 6 ele 4m yagi a couple of weeks prior to the
event - apart from various Scottish portables I heard 2 very loud G
stations in the Midlands on SSB and a host of weaker ones, but not one
was on CW - net result, no points for all (30w of my SSB just wouldn't
cut it).
Since then, even from this far North, I have worked numerous stations
on CW in 11 DXCC countries around Europe - I have tried telling each of
them that CW is out of date but for some reason they didn't listen or
didn't want to understand (can't think why).
Still, it was good to see yet another 2 wasted pages published in
RadCom at the expense of various HF and VHF results reflecting the
enthusiasm of so many.
