Hello all,

Many calls have been reissued to clubs and, in fact, Jack's (G5UM) 'Call
Book' notes that the two letter suffix calls were often reissued, presumably
pre-WW II. This complicates claims for some calls as there might be two
different claimants vying for the call. Or it may have been reissued pre-war and is
still current.

I see no problem with clubs taking over well known callsigns of members of
their clubs eg G3LRS has G2AA and G5UM and the ARC of Nottingham took over
G6CW. Other clubs seem to have obtained appropriate suffixes eg G3PY, G5RR.

However, there are a number of instances where two letter suffix calls have
been reissued on a most tenuous basis, sometimes on behalf of a club and then
over a period of time they have migrated to be the Club callsign holder's
personal call. eg G4AFJ starts a Kirkby Mallory Club and finds that a previous
resident of the village was G6ZZ. He requests the reissue of the call for
club use. A couple of years or so later it migrates so G4AFJ becomes G6ZZ.

Thus any vanity calls should be from a completely different series that has
not previously been issued. Two letter suffixes from the M series could be
used. ie M0AA -M9ZZ. If Ofcom is worried about a load of applications a one off
charge of £100 could be applied!

BTW Colin for vanity calls but as you are allowed to hold more than one call
I see no reason why the vanity call could not be held as well as the
original callsign especially as little work is involved with the present 'lifetime
licence'.

73, Geoff G4AFJ
