I'm always conscious though of the possibility of receiver dynamic range 
limitations causing distortion to otherwise clean off air signals, 
particularly in a contest situation. Usually difficult to prove but I've 
definitely shown this on the odd occasion with my ft990 over the 11 
years I've had it, and it's not the worst receiver in the world....
So I'm always a bit wary of jumping in with both feet :-)
