Point taken Stewart but I always run with plenty of attenuation and
usually the RF gain backed off as well. If I hear a dodgy signal I make
very sure before deviating from the standard 599!
This was a problem during the ARRL contest as well. At one point T96Q
was about 1.5kc from my frequency but his noise sidebands were making it
impossible to copy weak callers on my frequency. He was more T6 than T9.
I'm sure it wasn't the case last night on 80 but I feel that some people
are using a non-T9 note deliberately, firstly to make their signal
distinctive and secondly to 'clear' a large amount of band space. I
think this is cheating and I would like contest sponsors to crack down
on it.
