Gosh, following Les's trick I logged in with my assumed username and 
it worked fine. Now got a pdf of my new licence...

Note that you need to do two things before your licence appears in 
the box at the bottom of the screen (and they have turned off 
scrollbars so you have to use PageDn to get there).

1. Validate
2. Edit where you go through several screens and accept the 
information which should be your existing settings.

Then you find a line with your licence number, click on the icon at 
the left hand side to download (or right click if your browser is set 
to open PDFs in the browser window).

Remarkably straightforward after the initial glitches. But still not 
very user friendly...
