[UK-CONTEST] SSB AFS

Yes I had similar experience - mainly G3s (paper logging?) plus the odd
newer callsign (more excusable).

308 gross and 299 net here, very low 80m dipole, 400w, original ft1000, and
a rusty ssb operator!

I ran most of the time on 3663 where I started the contest on - quickly
joined by a few weak DLs that were no trouble - I had a better first hour
than usual and suspected that band conditions were longer than usual as a
lot of the Gs working me seemed to have lower numbers than normal - then
some very loud OZs landed on the frequency at 59, who proceeded to lecture
me on it being a non contesting part of the band - quick check on the rsgb
site and contest rules confirmed I was ok to run there, so I exchanged
pleasantries with them (!) and carried on until they resorted to playing
radio Moscow at 59 on top of me. I went and did one long S and P run, which
was productive, and then settled back on 3662 for most of the rest of the
contest - more deliberate qrm from a OZ and DL station, but they gave up in
the end as I was still working Gs through them. I tried working a few on the
second vfo in the third hour when it got quieter, but N1MM crashed three
times (unusually), so I stuck to running for the last hour, with some DLs,
PA, F, LY stations. Nice surprise was a TF3 station.

Seemed to be quite a few new stations about, across the spectrum of
callsigns. QRM (apart from the OZ/DL pratts) seemed less than usual, maybe
due to conditions?

Thanks everyone for the points - enjoyed the ssb leg for a change, but still
prefer the cw one.

Thought I was doing reasonably well until G3CWI gave me 430 with about ten
minutes to go!

Finished with 398 gross, 388 net; considering I give my call after *every*
contact the number of dupes is surprising, in fact one guy called me THREE
times giving serial numbers 002, 009 and 022. Go figure!

Some big scores heard from various stations around the UK - congrats to all!

Did anyone reach 400?

Was interested to see G0AAA spotted on the cluster at 1758 - by K6IPM
(California!).
