For what it's worth, I had exactly the same problem a few times and discovered (finally) that it was caused by water getting into the wiring of an extension (the one in my shack). A rodent had eaten through the cable covering which then allowed water in. It only failed when it rained. Internet works, but phone doesn't. I ended up having to pay for the BT engineer to come and diagnose it because we are with Homecall. BTW I wasn't aware that I'd been charged until I got the bill 3 months later! I suppose I'd have been charged even if I was with BT.

Come on then, someone out there explain this one to me.  Yesterday the phone line supplied by ONETEL suddenly started to act up..low audio crackling..sounds like one leg has gone O/C somewere between hr and the excahnge.

Got up today, nothing.but my internet 8mb connection works just great still.....this service comes from BT....but if I aint got any dial tone what the heck is going on?

We are migrating back to BT on the 20th....bit strange to say the least.
