Steve, I've just checked here using the GU8D designed SR2O unit.

It acts as a splitter for FT1kMP headphones, each output from the radio 
goes to separate stereo jacks which are wired to parallel up the L and R 
earpieces of the headphones that are plugged into it. So I think it is 
same as you are using. FT1kMP is set to Stereo 2.

I have plugged in Heil and NC3 headphones. With AF gain set a 10 o'clock 
for a pleasant level there is no leakage, however if I turn the other 
gain level way up I can hear some leakage but it wouldn't normally be at 
that level. I can't recall having any problems over the years at GU8D.

Ref sub rx filter, check you have menu 5.8 setting Sub-Fil set to ON.
