[UK-CONTEST] Software Poll

Surely what we need is software which can be configured for ESM by the
young, forward thinking, vibrant types among us but can equally well emulate
the familiar keystrokes of DOS based loggers, for those for whom change is
just another trauma.

Personally, I would prefer to have one button, which when pressed delivers
faithfully against my requirement.

Yes, I was aware of the ESM concept and type ahead and have used TR, but
wasn't aware that that was what it was called. When I tried TR many many
years ago I don't remember it being called that - it was just the way the
software worked when in S&P mode. I do have a problem doing 'ESM' though. As
someone who seems to spend all day nowadays writing code, I have to say I
agree with Dave's quote from N6TV - a key should perform one function. My
simple brain understands that, especially when I'm tired!
This is a good thread. What I find fascinating is that I can absolutely hate
a piece of software (I mean, not want to use it AT ALL), and others extoll
its virtues. I do like the idea of a poll where we say why we don't like a
piece of logging software, rather than why we like it. Saying why you like
it is like saying you like your car because it has a device which tells you
how fast you're going.

TMI!

I don't have anything to add to the stuff you've been given on ESM. I'd
simply say that it is one of those things that takes ten times longer to
explain than to assimilate.
TRlog- the grand-daddy of all loggers imo- first introduced this, and
when I first found it back in 1998, it was sort of a eureka moment.
Sadly TR has effectively followed the dinosaurs, but N1MM is a worthy
successor on the Widows platform

People who came the CT route tend not to like it, those from the TR
stable love it. Me? I wouldn't get out of bed without it!.

None of these opinions matter too much really, just try it and make your
own mind up. The only opinion that matters is your own.
