That's right - a far-seeing decision by "An Post",
about 20 years ago, meant we skipped that generation
of locating technology.
All printed addresses are machine readable, and all
delivery people use GPS now.  
It was the same with telephone systems.  We went
straight from electro-mechanical to digital
exchanges.
Dublin is an exception - we have postal areas.
My postcode is Dublin 18.
