[UK-CONTEST] Electric Fence Noise and Other Problems......

What was particularly offensive about your original posting was your
apparent amusement at the result of the "shock" to the animal and the
ability to cause this suffering by transmission.

It is a shame that none of the others who contacted me directly with
messages of support had the conviction of their views to challenge you
openly.

Let this be an end to it, I will not be contacting you off list and indeed I
hope I never have the misfortune to encounter you under any circumstances.

Two points here:

1. I was making the point about RF interfering with the collar, and the
loops interfering with HF Radio, which I consider relevant.

2. If you want to discuss the merits of Dog training, we can take it off
list, as I'd be interested to hear your opinion, however we have chosen to
use this method of training our dog, as a last resort. We live in a rural
area of Wales, its Lambing season, and last year the dog developed a taste
for Lambs, Ducks and anything else that moved. The Dog has been to a Pet
Psychiatrist, numerous trainers, training camps etc. This is our last
resort. If this doesn't work, we have to contain him on a permanent basis,
and eventually he'll escape. When he escapes, how long he'll last without
being shot, I don't know, particularly this time of year.

As I said, this is our last resort, and our patience and the local farmers
patience is running out, so I would be happy to hear your suggestions on
training an errant hound off list.

Regards

Adrian Rees

I detest these units (torture collar) and those that consider their use an
acceptable form of "training" for their pets.

I hope others will feel equal abhorrence at your "useful" information and
apparent amusement at the "shock!" delivered.

Sorry if this offends but I feel VERY strongly on such matters.

David

Hi all
I have installed an electric fence system to contain the family hound from
visiting the chickens and ducks. Unlike other "Industrial Strength"
agricultural systems this works by the hound being fitted with a collar
(which contains some sort of 8 - 16KHz RX) and a number of loops of wire,
each loop enclosing the ducks or chickens in their runs. The hound
approaches the perimeter wire, and he gets a bleeping noise from the collar,
any closer and he gets an electric shock (and judging by his response it's a
shock alright!).

Anyway, this afternoon I was tuning and testing out some new open wire
feeders. With 100w of RF the hound was jumping around the living room in
time to a CQ 80 call from myself. In addition the fence creates electrical
noise across the HF spectrum. Anyway, I'll switch the collar and fence off
whilst on the radio, but I though this info may be useful to someone.....
