To use SD in WAE, simply get it from directly from
www.ei5di.com/sdsetup.exe. Click on the SD icon to
start it, choose a contest/file name, say WAECW08,
then select the WAE template, and CW as the mode.

Then, just keep calling and logging non-European stations,
as only DX stations count for points and multipliers. As
you type callsigns, SD display EU ones in red. When the
callsigns are not red, they are OK to work.

If you want to try logging QTCs, type QT or QTC in the
callsign field. That opens the QTC logging window, and
you start by entering the QTC reference given by the
station who is about to send you the corresponding QTCs,
(each is a summary of a previously logged QSO).

You have to log the Time, Callsign and Serial for each
QTC. The easiest way to do this is to type it all in
one field with no spaces - and Enter when you've
finished.

For example, when you type 12099A1HA35, SD expands it to
1209 9A1HA 035. If you prefer, you can press Enter
after each field. At any time, if you make a mistake,
you can use the arrow keys and Tab to make corrections.

If you're not familiar with logging QTCs, the contest is
not the time to first try them - as it is harder than you
might think, especially when you have to change something.
Set up a test log and experiment with logging QTCs from
the mp3 files at http://www.darc.de/referate/dx/fedcw.htm
 - follow the "Warming Up" link.

You can log up to 10 QTCs from each DX station - but they
don't have to logged all at once. As you type callsigns
on the logging line, SD shows how many QTCs you have
left to log from that station. Each QSO and each QTC
scores 1 point, and it makes sense to ask for QTCs as
they make a huge difference to your score.

SD logs QTCs to a separate QTC file, in this example
WAECW08.QTC. Send this file, together with your Cabrillo
log, as attached files to waecw at dxhf.darc.de.

The contest runs from 0000 UTC Saturday 9th August to
2359 UTC Sunday 10th. It is CW-only on the 5 contest
bands from 80 - 10m.

Paul EI5DI
